After Ned died of cancer and the vineyard fell victim to phylloxera, Smith planted it to cabernet sauvignon vines in 1992. Beautiful and Contemporary. Aug 2015. Hourglass wines are excellent, and the property fits the wine. This is a beautiful winery of contemporary style, built back into the hill side. We had our tasting in a side room off the cave, before a large granite table. Although our hostess spoke a bit too fast for us, the wines did all of the talking.
