Ford 601 workmaster

Well-known Member. Jan 20, 2010. #1. I have a ford 601 and was using it to rake hay and thought it threw a rod. After taking the engine apart, I found out that the camshaft was broke by the timing gear. Also on the other end the gear that drives the hydraulic pump had 3 or 4 teeth that broke. Everything else on the engine was normal.

However, I personally prefer the 80W-90 in the rear end and in gear drive transmissions of that era. Many on this forum have differing opinions on the matter though.
