I went for my first ultrasound today (early because of past miscarriages) and measured true to my lmp/ovulation at 6w3d, however ..., Sept 23 ultrasound 6 wks - one healthy heartbeat, Oct 9 ultrasound 8 wks - it's TWINS! 18 wk ultrasound - 8oz each. 23 week ultrasound A - 1lb 8oz, B - 1lb 2oz. 28 week ultrasound - A 3lb 1oz, B 2lb 8 oz. 33 week ultrasound A - head down, 4lb 8oz; B - breech, 4lb; cervix effaced and 1-2cm dilated! April 1 - admitted to hosp for bedrest, 4cm ..., Then yesterday I went back in for another ultrasound (1 week later), and the baby has grown. They can see it clear as day now, only there is still no heartbeat. The baby is measuring at about 6 ½ weeks. The doctor seems a bit confused and wants me to come back for another ultrasound before he declares it a failed pregnancy., The declaration of no heartbeat in pregnancy is typically made during an ultrasound examination. I went today at 6 weeks and had an abdominal ultrasound. We saw the sac, yok and the baby but no fetal pole. The technician said everything looked great and that this was a normal find for 6 weeks. I say don’t stress until the doctor gives you something to stress about:-), It's pretty common to have an early ultrasound where things don't measure quite right and there may or may not be a heartbeat. Because the baby is too small and heart beat is little bit slower than average 5 week baby. However 5-8 weeks is very early pregnant time. I had a scan at exactly 6 weeks at the EPAU (early pregnancy assesment unit) and they could see a sac but no heartbeat.. I went back 3 weeks later and the heartbeat was there beating away as strong as anything and my pregnancy is going fine.., At our 6 week ultrasound where the baby measured 5 weeks, they said they could see a heartbeat but just barely - it wasn't yet measurable. Now two weeks later it's super strong and very obvious, even to my husband and I who had no idea what to look for when we saw the ultrasound.
